Arizona's largest radio newsroom needs a superstar full-time evening news editor!  KTAR-FM wants a specialist.  We need someone who can shape and refine stories to fit the KTAR news standard. If you think "transporting the victim to the hospital" sounds great, this isn't your gig.  The evening editor will be charged with ensuring stories and news content for our top programs have the right tone and all the facts in place for a market-dominating presentation.  Our ideal candidate will have multi-tasking ability, and you will be called upon to anchor newscasts or breaking news situations.  You must be organized, have great news judgment, write solid copy and be the person in the newsroom who knows exactly what's going on at any given moment.  This full-time position requires you to be available evenings and weekends. The schedule will vary based on vacations and sick relief.  It's an opportunity for a hungry broadcast professional with a desire to contribute to a winning team and advance in their career.  



  • Generate story ideas, coordinate information and assign personnel as needed. Coordinate information among radio reporters, online colleagues, show producers and studio engineers.
  • Compile daily "Daybook" and file future daybook items.
  • Monitor public service agency scanners/social media for breaking stories and assign personnel necessary to cover the story.
  • Read news wires/social media regularly and other news sources (email) for story ideas.
  • Special emphasis on stories for the PM Drive newscasts and on developing coverage plans for the following day's newscasts.
  • Coordinate with television news partner if needed for stories.
  • Handle other desk-related activities, as needed, i.e. newspaper file, mail and other tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the newsroom.
  • Assemble and send out scheduled text updates and text alerts when needed.





  • Two years post high school education in communication/journalism with skills in the following areas: booking guests, broadcast journalism, writing, computer and operational skills, related field, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a broadcast journalism environment, professional or collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of newswire services and a working knowledge of computer skills.
  • Aggressive attitude with a strong desire to advance in the broadcasting media.
  • Quick learner who is fully committed to meeting the challenge.
  • Strong desire to work at the state's largest and most respected radio station.
  • Multi-tasking pro. Ability to be organized with the capability to concentrate on more than one event at a time, able to follow written and verbal instructions under moderate supervision.



  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
